Jenny Ware MP for Hughes Interacting with public to discuss issues

JENNY WARE MP

“TREASURER Jim Chalmers handed down his first full budget.

“It is important that pressure is maintained on the Albanese Labor Government to show fiscal restraint and to provide real solutions to help struggling Australians, families and small businesses. I spent the April Parliamentary recess throughout the Hughes electorate, holding mobile offices, responding to the many who have already filled in my 60 Second Survey [jennyware.com.au/ community-feedback] and speaking with individuals, families and businesses.

“Last Thursday, I invited Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor to visit Hughes to hear from my electorate.

“Angus and I visited businesses in Sutherland to meet with Café 2232, Left Bower, Scott's Florist, hairdresser Sable Salon and Spa as well as The Beauty Loft by Mandy.

“It was also positive to meet with emerging entrepreneurial business owners and I look forward to welcoming them into Sutherland.

“The clear takeaways for Angus and I were that the escalating cost of living and rise in interest rates have seen a reduction in customers through their stores, as well as a reduction in the discretionary spending of their clients.

“Our small businesses are doing it tough. However, they keep persevering and remain the backbone of Australia, where they employ over 40 per cent of our country's business workforce.

“Factors such as escalating energy costs, increased EFTPOS fees and staff shortages were raised with us.

“One of my favourite parts of being your Member of Parliament is the opportunity to go and interact with our emerging youth.

“Last Tuesday, I was invited to Como Public School to meet the school's fantastic leadership team: Archer, Jack, Owen, Ruby, Hayley, Emma, Charles and Bobby.

“They are enthusiastic, passionate and articulate young leaders who are actively raising awareness about issues that will dominate their futures. They raised with me:

·         Doing more to clean up and preserve our local environment

·         Removing microplastics - particularly ones damaging our marine life

·         Cleaning up our local rubbish

·         Avoiding future wars

·         Concern about concussion in contact sports

·         Addressing homelessness

“Opportunities like these remind me that our future is in great hands with our emerging young leaders and our youth generally. They are committed to ensuring that both their community and their country remain the best places in the world to grow up, live, work and play. If you have any questions or comments concerning the budget, or any other issue which is important to you, please email me at Jenny.Ware.MP@aph.gov.au or call my office on 9521 6262.”
