Home ownership is always a hot topic says Hughes MP Jenny Ware

JENNY WARE MP

“OPPOSITION Leader Peter Dutton of The Liberal Party has handed down his Budget in reply last week and the Party has committed to a crackdown on gambling advertising to protect the vulnerable members of our community and we will assist first home buyers into the market by allowing them to use their superannuation. I am holding regular mo- bile offices and am out in the community.

“I am regularly asked by parents how and when will I take action to reduce the advertising of gambling before and during the coverage of live sport.

“I am strongly of the view that our youth and at-risk community members should not be subject to gambling advertising while they are watching sport.

“This is why I was delighted to see that a Liberal Government will introduce a ban on gambling advertising during the broadcast of sport. I am encouraging the Albanese Labor Government to work with us on this initiative and ensure it is implemented as soon as possible.

“Throughout the election campaign, affordable housing was a consistent issue. A year on, it is still being raised especially by young men and women through my 60 second survey community survey - jennyware.com.au/ community-feedback.

“I am pleased to see that a Liberal Government will allow Australians to use their hard-earned superannuation to purchase their first home. This is a policy which will support men and women who have worked hard to get into the housing market. Buying a first home has never been easy.

“But we now have the lowest rate of private home ownership in Australia since the Second World War. Housing is a continuum. As Australians move into private home ownership, more places become available within the private rental market. In turn, this enables greater investment by governments at all levels into social and emergency housing.

“The Federal Government has the tools to assist Australians to make home ownership a reality. The Liberal Party's policy will allow superannuation to be used to invest in Australians' futures. Home ownership for young people in Hughes can become a reality.

“Meanwhile the Albanese Labor Government's Housing Australia Future Fund is in disarray. The Government's legislation has been blocked by the Greens in the Senate.

“The Labor Government's announcement to bring an extra 1.5 million migrants into Australia without providing the necessary levers to increase housing is deeply concerning.

“Sensible increases in migration are supported, as migration provides tremendous economic benefits, tremendous social benefits and Australia is the most successful multicultural nation in the world.

“However, the government's policy will mean an extra 1669 people will be coming into NSW alone every week for the next five years. Where will they live?

“To date, the Albanese Labor Government's solution is to throw more people at the housing crisis rather than assisting and incentivising the market to build more housing. I spoke about this last week in Federal Parliament - jennyware.com.au/ speeches/mpi-migration.

“If you have any questions or comments about the budget, housing affordability, the cost-of-living crisis or any other issue, please email me at Jenny.Ware.MP@aph. gov.au or call my office on 9521 6262.”
