Federation Chamber - BILLS - Royal Commissions Amendment (Enhancing Engagement) Bill 2023 - Second Reading
I spoke on the Royal Commissions Amendment (Enhancing Engagement) Bill 2023. I support this bill, which amends the Royal Commissions Act to ensure the confidentiality of certain information given by or on behalf of individuals to the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide.
QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE - Energy
My question is to the Prime Minister. Before the election, the Prime Minister promised a $275 drop in power bills. That didn't work, so he passed laws on 12 December 2022 that he promised will actually be deflationary by reducing peoples' power bills next year. Where are the Australians who have had a reduction in their power bills? Doesn't this show just how out of touch the Prime Minister is with ordinary Australians?
BILLS - Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Amendment Bill 2022 - Second Reading
I spoke on the Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Amendment Bill 2022. Most of this is noncontroversial and seeks merely to bring the operation of the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to parliament referendum into line with the Commonwealth Electoral Act. The stated purpose of the bill is to amend the Referendum (Machinery Provisions) Act 1984 to suspend the provisions of the act that require the production and distribution of a 'yes' and 'no' case. The bill otherwise restricts government expenditure in relation to this referendum campaigning.

BILLS - National Anti-Corruption Commission Bill 2022, National Anti-Corruption Commission (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2022 - Second Reading
I give my support to the National Anti-Corruption Commission Bill 2022. Anticorruption and integrity are intricately linked. Integrity is important. Integrity matters. Transparency in government decision-making matters. Transparency in government decision-making is important.
QUESTIONS WITHOUT NOTICE - Workplace Relations
My question is to the Minister for Small Business. I refer to page 52 of the regulation impact statement from the fair work amendment bill. In calculating the cost of multiemployer bargaining, the report states, '$273,700 divided by 15.2 is $12,878 per business.' Is the minister aware that that figure divided by 15.2 actually equals $18,006? Or is this a mistake, with the government deliberately trying to hide the significant cost which businesses are set to pay?
MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE - National Security
I speak on this matter of public importance about the government's rushed decision to settle families of ISIS soldiers in Western Sydney without proper consultation with that community.
BILLS - Appropriation Bill (No. 1) 2022-2023, Appropriation Bill (No. 2) 2022-2023, Appropriation (Parliamentary Departments) Bill (No. 1) 2022-2023 - Second Reading
The appropriation bills of 2022-23 reflect all of the missed opportunities of the government's recent budget, missed opportunities for Australian families, missed opportunities for Australian businesses and missed opportunities for many of those who live within my electorate of Hughes.
