Industry, Small and Family Business, and Women

It was wonderful to have the Hon Sussan Ley MP, Deputy Opposition Leader, here in Hughes.  As the Shadow Minister for Industry, Skills and Training, Small and Family Business, and Women, I had the chance to show her around Hughes and visit a manufacturing business, a small family-owned business and host a women’s roundtable.

I had a great time visiting with CEO Nicole Perrie, the granddaughter of founder George Perrie, and her team. Alexander Perrie & Co. is a local manufacturing company building vehicles for the NSW RFS and NSW SES.

Alexander Perrie & Co. has been manufacturing since 1946, when George and his brother Frank had a vision of building a fire fighting vehicle and equipment manufacturing company with the highest degree of quality, innovation, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Since then, more than 4,600 truck bodies have been built.

We also visited a small Family Business, Bubba Gump Pest Control Pty Ltd, who operate out of Illawong. We met Brady, Susan and Carly and listened to the challenges they are facing as a small business, which includes staffing, and overall cost of living. However, the team at Bubba Gump Pest Control pride themselves on their service and are proud of the loyal client base built up over many years.

It was a privilege to host a Women’s Roundtable with the Hon Sussan Ley MP at Rocksalt Menai. We met with successful, hard-working, and like-minded women who are leaders in helping to better our community.
