Pensions and Benefits

In Parliament today I spoke about the rising cost of living in Hughes and Australia. We need a concrete plan. The Albanese Labor government doesn't capture the struggles of families with soaring expenses, declining wages, and a per capita recession with its policy. It's time for an agenda that combats inflation and boosts productivity, addressing real concerns.

Energy

In Parliament this week, I rose to speak about Independent analysis by a leading Australian energy economist who has revealed a staggering $60 billion black hole in the government's energy plan.

The government's insistence on renewables as the sole solution neglects the reality that an 'all of the above' approach, embracing different technologies, is essential for a reliable energy future.

Hughes Electorate: Rapid Relief Team

I stood in parliament speak about the Rapid Relief Team, a volunteer-driven organisation supporting Australian first responders during emergencies.

I joined RRT at Holsworthy Army Barracks to honour the NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, and Fire and Rescue NSW to witness the RRTs amazing catering expertise, made possible by a grant from the Hughes Stronger Communities Grant Program.

With a new hot box, they can now provide more meals in crisis situations like bushfires and floods.

Wages

In parliament I stood to address the concerning issue of the collapse of real wages in Australia under the Albanese Labor government while the cost of living continues to rise.

This isn't just an economic problem; it's a personal and social issue, as indicated by Suicide Prevention Australia linking cost of living and personal debt to increased suicide risks.

The government is not effectively controlling inflation and relying on the Reserve Bank to raise interest rates. Despite promises of prosperity, Australians are not better off, and the government lacks a concrete economic growth plan.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

This week in Parliament I spoke on recognising October as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

  • 110,000 Australians experience a miscarriage every year.

  • More than 2,000 Australians experience stillbirth each year.

  • Almost 700 Australians lose a baby within the first 28 days after birth annually.

The reality of the Albanese Labor Government's housing policy along with the cost of living crisis has seen a $22,000 increase in the average annual mortgage payment and an 11.5% surge in rental rates.

National Occupational Respiratory Disease Registry Bill 2023

I stood in Parliament to advocate for two bills that aim to address the increasing cases of occupational respiratory diseases in Australia's construction industry. These bills propose the formation of a registry based on the 2019 National Dust Disease Taskforce's recommendations, facilitating early disease detection and fostering preventative measures while upholding privacy safeguards.

Federation Chamber | PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS | Child Care

This week I stood to criticises Labor's "cheaper childcare policy" for not delivering on its promises. Despite a $4.7 billion spend, key issues like childcare places in regional areas and staff retention remain unaddressed. Childcare fees have risen, making it unaffordable for many, especially given the current cost-of-living crisis. Childcare fees increased 53% in the past under Labor and now we have seen a 8% increase I urges the government to address fundamental childcare sector challenges.

House of Representatives | STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS | Dunlea Centre

The Dunlea Centre in Engadine, formerly Boys' Town, has supported at-risk teenagers in Hughes since 1939. They offer therapeutic and educational programs in a residential setting. Notably, many students who had disengaged from regular schooling returned to complete their HSC, highlighting Dunlea's transformative impact.

Federation Chamber | CONSTITUENCY STATEMENTS | Bowel Cancer

Strike out bowel cancer. This short, simple sentence encapsulated the mission and vision of Scott Rindfleish. As an avid softballer, it was his last pitch. Scott, sadly, passed away on 10 October last year. He was 40 years old. He was a Rindfleish, part of a family of softball royalty in the Sutherland Shire in New South Wales and indeed in Australia.

House of Representatives | BILLS | Migration Amendment Bill 2023 Second Reading

I rise to speak on the Migration Amendment (Strengthening Employer Compliance) Bill 2023, and I do support this bill in principle. The bill seeks to amend the Migration Act 1958 to strengthen employer compliance measures in relation to protecting temporary migrant workers from exploitation. The latest figures available reveal that on average there around 1.6 million temporary visa holders with a full or partial right to work in Australia each year.

Federation Chamber | PRIVATE MEMEBERS' BUSINESS | Casual Workers

I rise to speak on this motion, which demonstrates Labor's interventionist approach to industrial relations in this country. This motion concerns the casual workers of Australia and is a concerted effort by the government to restrict casual work and demonise those employees who, for various reasons, choose this form of work.

Federation Chamber | PRIVATE MEMEBERS' BUSINESS | Digital Economy

I rise to speak in favour of this motion brought by the honourable member for Bradfield, who has been a passionate advocate for advancing and supporting Australia's digital economy for a long period of time. Our digital economy is now an integral part of the lives of Australians, whether it be e-commerce, e-marketplaces, online education courses, streaming platforms, social media, videoconferencing, e-health or offering innovative work-from-home solutions.

House of Representatives | ADJOURNMENT | Community Pharmacies

I rise to speak in support of community pharmacists, particularly in my electorate of Hughes. I also rise to advocate on their behalf in relation to the government's proposed 60-day dispensing policy. The community pharmacy sector is a large and important industry within Australia. It has repeatedly been recognised by successive Australian governments as an integral part of Australia's world-class healthcare delivery system and enjoys a very high level of confidence from consumers.

House of Representatives | MATTERS OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE | Cost of Living

I rise to speak on this matter of public importance, which concerns the Prime Minister's broken promise to address the cost-of-living crisis. Australians are hurting. They are hurting throughout the country; they are hurting throughout my electorate. The impact of inflation and rising interest rates is being felt by businesses and families right across our country. Rising mortgage payments, rising prices at the checkout and rising energy bills are all eating away at already very tight household budgets. Australians are having to work more hours and dig into their savings to make ends meet.

House of Representatives | STATEMENTS BY MEMBERS | Camp Coutts

I rise to speak about Camp Coutts, a beautiful, 200-hectare piece of bushland situated within the Heathcote National Park at Waterfall, in the Hughes electorate. This area showcases the rugged beauty of the Australian bush at its best: untamed park characterised by magnificent native vegetation and wildlife, rocky outcrops and freshwater pools.
