ANSTO is leading the way in nuclear technology research, especially in the health industry. It is also the home to the only multi-purpose reactor in Australia, right here in Hughes.

ANSTO’s priority is to benefit Australian people, industries, and the environment. This is through its research in nuclear and improving the health of Australians using nuclear technology for diagnostic, therapeutic and innovative treatments for current and emerging diseases.

ANSTO uses its nuclear capabilities to identify, quantify, and monitor the mechanisms which cause or influence the development and progression of chronic diseases to gain knowledge and develop tools to improve human health.
